Under the Olympic format, teams have the option to make changes to their roster up to two hours ahead of the Individual Qualifier.

At the Tokyo Games, the USA tactically exercised that option. Kent Farrington rode in the individual event and McLain Ward was brought in for the team event.

They won’t be using that same strategy in Paris.

Traveling reserves Karl Cook and Caracole de la Roque were brought in for Farrington and Greya in an 11th hour change ahead of the team event and delivered two clutch clears that helped pave the way to Olympic team silver for the Americans. They’re sticking with their medal winning lineup for the individual qualifier and did not present Greya at the second horse inspection.

Several teams are brining in fresh horse power, however.

Here’s what we know.

Canada has opted to change their lineup

Tiffany Foster and Figor have been subbed in for Amy Millar and Truman. All four Canadian horses were presented at the second inspection and passed.

Mexico’s Andres Azcarraga and Contendros 2 are back on the start list

Originally slated to compete in the team event, his first at an Olympic Games, Andres Azcarraga’s horse did not pass the first inspection and traveling reserves Federico Fernandez and Romeo were called up in their place.

Mexico went on to qualify for the Team Final when disaster struck for a second time. Carlos Hank Guerreiro’s mount Porthos Maestro WH Z was deemed unfit the morning of the team medal competition and, without a reserve to sub in, they were forced to withdraw.

Egypt will not vie for an individual medal

Nayel Nassar (EGP) has elected to withdraw after his horse Coronado incurred a minor injury in Paris following the first horse inspection.

United Arab Emirates & Israel call up their reserves

Traveling reserves Salim Ahmed Al Suwaidi (36) and Foncetti VD Heffinck will contest the individual final in place of Ali Hamad Al Kirbi and Jarlin de Torres for the UAE. Al Kirbi and his partner of just five months rode in the team qualifier but incurred 28 jumping faults and 16 time faults. They’ve opted not to present for the second horse inspection.

For Israel, Isabella Russekoff (24) will now get her shot with C Vier 2. Teammate Ashlee Bond and Donatello had an uncharacteristic 20 faults in the Team Final, prompting Bond to withdraw her horse from competition.

Three additional horses were not presented at the second horse inspection

Kevin Staut’s Viking d’la Rousserie for France did not pass the first horse inspection and was not re-presented on Saturday.

Reserve riders Al Alsharbatly and Alamo for Saudi Arabia and Armando Trapote and Tornado VS for Spain also did not jog. Spain’s Tirano, the mount of Ismail Garcia Roque, did jog but has been held for re-inspection.

Stay tuned for further updates.

Individual riders for Syria, Italy, Norway, Lithuania, Colombia, Estonia, Portugal, Chile, Latvia, Venezuela, Greece, Argentina, Denmark, and Thailand now join the starting lineup. The Individual Qualifier gets under way on Monday Aug 5 at 8:00 am ET.
