Daniel Deusser and Gangster v/h Noddevelt didn’t just win the CSI5* GNP 1.60m Grand Prix at Otomi Club Hipico on Saturday, they left no question about it.

Four of 35 starters advanced to the jump off for Olaf Petersen Jr’s course in the most competitive start list to grace San Miguel de Allende in recent history.

Six of the world top 50 made the trip to Mexico, including world no. 1 Henrik von Eckermann on new ride Minute Man, Ireland’s Shane Sweetnam (no. 11) and Richard Howley (no. 38), Canada’s Erynn Ballard (no. 20), Germany’s Deusser (no. 24) and Italy’s Emanuele Camilli (no. 48). Also on the roster were top international talent in Christian Ahlmann, Jens Baackmann, Janika Sprunger, Sergio Alvarez Morya, Eduardo de Menezes, riding stars Emilie and Zoe Conter, plus all five members of Mexico’s Paris 2024 Olympic team.

But none came within three seconds of Deusser’s 43.52 second time with the Gangster v/h Noddevelt.

Camilli and Odense Odeveld were closest in 46.96. von Eckermann and Minute Man took third with a steady double clear in 53.09.

The Grand Prix win is a first for the 13-year-old KWPN gelding.

Owned and developed by Vladimir Tretera, Gangster v/h Noddevelt represented the Czech Republic at the 2022 Herning World Championships.

Deusser took over the ride and a part-stake in January this year. That same month, the pair jumped to their first podium finish, a third place in a CSI5*-W 1.55m Table A jump off at Leipzig, GER. In the 10 months since, they’ve landed on six more podium finishes (Jumpr Stats).

But the past six weeks have been their most successful.

In September, Deusser and striking bay helped Germany to victory in the BMO Nations Cup at Spruce Meadows with a 1/0 performance and to a second place finish in the CSI5* Grand Prix in Coapexpan.

On Saturday at Otomi Club Hipico they did one better, taking the win in the 5* GNP 1.60m Grand Prix.

The pair hasn’t dropped a rail over 10 rounds of competition since September 1st, including three rounds at 1.60m.

Deusser hasn’t finished outside the top 10 this week in San Miguel de Allende. He was seventh with Gangster v/h Noddevelt in Thursday’s Cadillac 1.40m Two Phase and third in the TV Cuartro 1.50m with Otello de Guldenboom. He took first in Friday’s Banorte 1.45m Special Two Phase and 10th in Sunday’s PlayDoIt 1.50m with Bingo Ste Hermelle, the finishing as the fastest four faulter with the only rail of his week.
