I try to keep my #ROOTD game strong. (See #ROOTD posts past.)
And I like my horses to be well turned out, too. #EOOTD, if you will. For both, I lean on classic elements for a sophisticated look, no matter what. So for this week’s styling we’re going switch gears and outfit a horse—from the bottom up.
Note: I am a jumper rider, so this tack is geared toward hunter/jumpers, but you can incorporate similar colors and designs into your dressage, western or pleasure riding style.
First, the saddle pad. I love a crisp, white pad like this one from TuffRider. It keeps the focus on the horse, and a white pad will ALWAYS look good for impromptu photo-opps. (If you prefer more flash, it comes in a variety of colors.)
The diamond quilting is great for extra padding to maximize your horse’s comfort. And girth loops are a must.
I ride all my horses in a half pad as well. Again, I prefer white with the natural sheepskin, but this Horze one also comes in black if you want to add more pizzazz. I love that it helps eliminate pressure points on your horse’s back, and also acts as a shock absorber.
Tip: I cut off the velcro fastener. They drive me nuts, and as long as you are placing the half pad correctly (check with your trainer or saddle fitter if you are unsure), you should be fine.
Saddles are so personal, and it’s always best to try a few with a saddle fitter before you make a purchase. That disclaimer aside: I really like the Bates Caprilli Close Contact Saddle.
A close contact saddle is my go to. I like to be able to move my body freely and easily to connect with and feel my horse. The color is beautiful, and the EASY-CHANGE Fit Solution makes it simple to adjust your saddle to perfectly fit one horse or many, depending on your needs.
Naturally, if your beautiful saddle needs an equally beautiful bridle. The Nunn Finer Gianna Flash Bridle is just gorgeous! The contrast stitching is beyond stunning and I love the padded inlaid crown for extra support.
If you’re only going to have one bridle, I like to have one that works for different horses. The removable flash allows you to do just that. You can’t go wrong with this look.
One last step: boots! I use Equifit front and hind boots, but they can get a bit pricey, especially for multiple horses. Horze does a matching set that has a similar look and great protection at a much lower price point. They are super easy to clean, too. #getthelookforless!
