Another day, another victory. So goes the life of German superstar Michael Jung.

Hot off his victories at the 2015 Burghley Horse Trials and the 2016 Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event, Jung is closing in on the elusive Rolex Grand Slam. To win the title, a feat only accomplished once before, he must win the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials this week in England.

So far, the event is proceeding exactly as planned for the world #1 eventer.

Jung is leading after the dressage phase on 34.4 penalties—the same score, incidentally, that he achieved in Kentucky with Fischerrocana FST just last week.

“It’s the ease of it all that makes him such a pleasure to watch,” explained commentator and Olympic Dressage gold medalist Carl Hester.

“Sam was really good,” said Jung of the 16-year-old gelding that has earned him Olympic, World and European titles.

“Before today, I felt he was quite nervous and that I hadn’t done enough work with him but, in the end, he was very relaxed. I must thank all the people who have been looking after him while I was ‘on holiday’ in Kentucky.”

If Jung can hold onto the lead come Sunday, he’ll become the first German rider to win Badminton Horse Trials (GBR). And add one more “first” on his already long list of accomplishments.
