During his 15 years as part of the Massachusetts Mounted Police Force, Elliot was respected as much by his fellow officers as he was the people of Boston, young and old, whom he helped to protect. On Sunday, Elliot passed away surrounded by the troopers who loved him, and the Massachusetts State Police released a moving tribute to their beloved comrade on Facebook.

“He was a true gentleman and a true trooper to the end,” says the post. “Elliot’s gentle nature will be greatly missed by many, but will be missed most of all by the State Police Mounted Unit.”
