Belgium’s Abdel Saïd had the championship title on his brain as he stormed to victory in the Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT) Grand Prix of Rome on Sunday. And, he joked, so did his mount, Wathnan Quaker Brimbelles Z.

“I am very proud of my horse. He was on the ball with me today. I think he was looking at the LGCT ranking as well, because he was really on it with me!”

The pair topped a seven-way jump-off, stopping the clock in 35.27 seconds to take the W.

Saïd had stride and will onside with the 11-year-old Zangersheide gelding (Quicksilver St Simeon x Hickstead): “He has a big stride and a lot of scope, so I had to use that to my advantage today. He is maybe not the most agile horse, but he is really game, and it worked out.”

Saïd has already qualified for the Super Grand Prix with his win in Cannes. The golden ticket then goes to runner up Pieter Devos, who took second on his homebred mare Casual.

Now on 241 points, Saïd has extended his championship lead ahead of Christian Ahlmann (224 points) with just two legs to come in the 2026 LGCT season.

“There are two more legs, but it’s looking positive,” said Saïd. “We couldn’t have improved on today anyway, so I’m very happy with the result.”

The LGCT next heads to Cairo, Egypt October 22–24.
