It was veteran stacked jump off in Round 2 of the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup Final on Friday, but drama dominated the day.

Daniel Coyle (IRL) and Incredible ran out at the first jump and then toed three more rails to finish on 19 faults. He now sits in 15th position overall on 13 penalties.

Hans-Dieter Dreher (GER) ploughed through the final oxer on Elysium to add four faults to their total. He carries 10 penalties forward.

Max Kühner (AUS) lost a stirrup to the last but still managed to pull off the first double clear of the day with Elektric Blue, moving up from 22nd place to eighth overall on six penalties.

Martin Fuchs, the 2022 Leipzig champion, floored around the course on Leone Jei to finish nearly two seconds fastest to take the win on Day 2, despite a harried adjust in the turn after the double.

“On a horse like Leone Jei, you can get away with something like that,” said Fuchs, who has a 69% clear round rate at 1.60m with the 13-year-old KWPN gelding over the past year (Jumpr stats). He will also ride his “unicorn” horse on Sunday.

“I’m putting all my cards on him.”

Fuchs is now tied with defending champion Henrik von Eckermann (SWE) on two penalties behind Julien Epaillard. The Frenchman remains atop the overall leaderboard on zero penalties, despite strategically withdrawing from the jump off to save his Donatello d’Auge for Sunday’s two round Final.

Three riders are tied on three penalties—Kevin Staut (FRA), Lillie Keenan (USA) and Ben Maher (GBR).

The top 30 advance to the first round on Sunday.

The first round begins at 2:00pm local time, with the medal round taking place at 4:30pm. Catch the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ live on FEI TV.
