We roll our eyes at clichés because we’ve heard them a thousand times—but buried beneath the worn-out phrasing is a core truth: hard things are never conquered in one heroic swoop. They’re dismantled by small, everyday acts, repeated with care.
So let’s talk about a hard thing: solving sexual misconduct in sport. That can feel like a mountain. Overwhelming. Systemic. Exhausting just to think about.
But taking strides toward it? That’s simple.
It looks like a rider walking into the ring for a weekend charity class. It looks like a barn full of friends making friendship bracelets on a Saturday afternoon. It looks like scanning a QR code to bring home a weighted plush horse that tells a survivor, you are not alone.
That’s the quiet, powerful magic behind the annual #WeRideTogether fundraising competition, returning to Thunderbird Show Park during the Summer Fort Welcome, August 8 and 9. Like that tiny acorn, every entry, every donation, and every bracelet plants the seed for something unshakeable: a sport that is safer, stronger, and more compassionate for everyone.
All while having fun—and riding for serious money—in the process.
The #WeRideTogether Open Classic takes place Sunday, August 9, in the Pacific Park Ring with two height options to welcome riders of all levels:
- 0.90m & 1.00m – $2,500 purse / $175 entry fee CAD
- 1.10m & 1.15m – $5,000 purse / $225 entry fee CAD
All proceeds directly support #WeRideTogether’s mission to eliminate abuse in all sports, at every level, internationally. Donations can also be made online.
But the impact starts before riders even step into the ring.
On Saturday, August 8, #WeRideTogether will host a friendship bracelet-making activity at the Hunter Hospitality—a free community-building event where participants can connect, create, and learn about healthy sport resources while receiving free goodies and safeguarding education. Participants can also scan to order an Agano stuffed toy. Agano, a weighted plush horse named after a retired grand prix jumper, is designed to provide comfort and grounding—he’s a tangible reminder that no one is alone.
And because this is a #WeRideTogether class, expect fun bonus prizes—from TKEQ attire to Equestrian Stockholm saddle pads to The Infused Equestrian horse care packages to Pinsnickety pins to use for your next class and more covetable swag from top equestrian brands. Past editions of this class have drawn nearly 120 entries, with riders praising the fun, competitive atmosphere and the chance to compete for a cause.
