New year, new world number one!
Daniel Deusser started 2017 off on top. Literally. The German rider has overtaken countryman Christian Ahlmann to claim the number one spot on the Longines’ World Rankings. If you’re wondering how much effort it takes to accomplish such a feat, Deusser just wrapped up nine consecutive weeks of 5* shows with seven different Grand Prix horses.
In the words of Rupaul, you better werk.
Deusser is no stranger to the top slot. He first reached the pinnacle of the world rankings in April 2015 when he put paid to Scott Brash’s 16 month reign in the pole position.

Ahlmann now sits in second followed by America’s Kent Farrington (3rd) and McLain Ward (4th). France’s Simon Delestre and Kevin Staut are fifth and sixth, respectively. While Germany’s Marcus Ehning (7th), Canada’s Eric Lamaze (8th), Great Britain’s Scott Brash (9th), and France’s Penelope Leprevost (10th) round out the top ten.
You know what they say about being on top. It’s lonely and there’s only one way to go—down.
Kidding.
Congratulations, Daniel!
