The capybara looks down a the mini horse sleeping nearby, and says, “Hey! Where’d you get those kittens?”

And the mini horse says, “What kittens?”

Just kidding. It wasn’t a bar, it was a legit animal pen in Nagano, Japan. Because when you’re not hanging out with the Owl Cowboy at one of Japan’s real-life animal cafés, you can be at home in the animal pen, talking shop with your own, personal capybara.

So what the hell is a capybara (and why is it so chill)? We’re happy you asked!

It just so happens that the capybara is the world’s largest rodent, native to most countries in South America.

Why is the capybara just hanging out, being chill, with a mini horse and a gaggle of mewing kittens? Great question!

In the wild, capybaras are highly social animals, and other species both wild and domestic just love to chill with them, as evidenced by the Tumblr page, “Animals Sitting on Capybaras.”

Super! But what am I supposed to do with this information?

We have no idea! But we hope it helps you to better enjoy the following. (And by all means, please, please appreciate the moment at the 0:12 mark when the capybara looks down at the mini horse with visible disdain and actually sighs—YES, SIGHS—at what he’s witnessing.)
