American cultural anthropologist Margaret Mead famously said “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.”
That same philosophy is the one driving Three Mares.
Founded in 2025 by Californian horsewoman, advocate and now entrepreneur Carrie Kehring, Three Mares acquired two established brands in the equestrian space, Dreamers & Schemers and ManeJane, with the express purpose of donating their products and profits to nonprofits working to make horse sport more accessible, inclusive and safe for youth athletes. It’s a cause close to Kehring’s heart and one that has only grown over the past year.
At its outset, Three Mares set a giving commitment of $1 Million in products and profits over 10 years. With Year One on the books, they’re already on track to exceed that goal, said CEO Kendall Michaud.
“Three Mares donated more than $151k and supported 15 organizations in 2025, including IHSA, IEA, the Michael Nyuis Foundation, Equestrian Aid Foundation, Pony Club, Fleet of Angels, and #WeRideTogether,” said Michaud.
That support took the form of both products and financial donations.
Among the largest product donation was the 200+ Dreamers & Schemers socks Three Mares gave to IHSA and IEA, two national nonprofits making equestrian competition accessible to high school and college students by eliminating the cost of horse ownership. They also gave bridles, D&S saddle pads and socks, and ManeJane spur straps to all the 2025 Michael Nyuis Foundation grant recipients, a California-based nonprofit that provides financial support to young riders of all levels without the means to compete consistently.
Of the notable cash donations last year, Three Mares gave $13.2k to the 501c3 GaitWay to Her Success in Hillsboro, MO to purchase new saddles for the nine horses in their Dream Chasers and Dream Makers programs, which allow girls and teen women to experience the transformative power of working with horses.
“In my role as a former horse trainer and coach, I’ve seen firsthand how powerful sports are in shaping young people into confident, focused, and successful adults,” said Michaud. “It’s incredibly rewarding to work for a company so invested in change and one that designs, produces, and sells fun, fashionable, and whimsical equestrian accessories and leather goods that benefit the equestrian community.”
Over the next nine years, Three Mares will donate at least $850k more to non-profits and organizations empowering youth athletes in horse sport. To learn more or apply for support, visit thethreemares.com.
