Of grasshoppers and ants, Michael Hutchison falls into the latter category.

The Irish rider beat a field of 34 to win the $5,000 1.40 Meter Winning Round at the Split Rock Jumping Tour (SRJT) Columbus International CSI 2* in Johnstown, Ohio on Friday aboard the tiny bay Ronaldo De La Pomme.

With the top ten horse and rider combinations returning in reverse order, Hutchinson and the 12-year-old Selle Français gelding flew through the second round course leaving every fence untouched in a time of 37.092 seconds to capture the victory.

“I have been riding Ronaldo for about six months now,” said the 27-year-old rider. “He is from Windsor Show Stables and I am very lucky to get to ride him. It is a pleasure to even get to jump these classes. It is fantastic we did so well today.”

Just don’t expect to see Hutchinson celebrating before his work day is done.

“We have to clean a bit of tack and maybe then we can take a drink to celebrate,” he smiled.

Venezuela’s Emanuel Andrade took second aboard Boy IV. His countryman Alejandro Karolyi third, with Lincourt Gino.

Tune into the SRJT Live Stream on Saturday for the $10,000 Amalaya Investments 1.35m Prix and Sunday for the $50,000 Lugano Diamonds CSI2* Grand Prix.
