Italy’s Emanuele Camilli has a type. The elite show jumper has a fabulous string of horses, and many of them have something in common: they’re related.
He has a liking for the lineage of Chacco-Blue. His most recent international results came aboard horses named Chacareno PS, Chico’s Air PS, Chaccrouet, and, most recently, Chacco’s Girlstar.
Camilli has great taste; Chacco-Blue is one of the most popular sires worldwide and it’s for a reason. The stallion’s offspring have gone on to do incredible things, including earning Olympic gold medals (looking at you, Explosion W), European Championship gold medals (ahem, Chaqui Z), and too many CSI5* wins to count.
Camilli liked his odds with Chacco-Blue, and the results are showing, especially in Mexico.
He had a field day on the giant grass field in Mexico City with Chacco’s Girlstar. The phenomenal mare brought home the win in the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Mexico, presented by GNP Seguros, the biggest win of her career.
The start list was star studded, but Camilli knew he belonged when sitting on Chacco’s Girlstar. Camilli was last to go with the 13-year-old Hanvorian mare over the short course, and he made his time count.
“It’s hard to keep my emotions in check,” he said after his win. “I was the last to start and just decided to go all in. My mare is simply fantastic. She’s incredibly fast, and I can trust her 200 percent!”
The time posted was just enough to edge Germany’s Jörne Sprehe into second with Sprehe Hot Easy, and Belgium’s Jérôme Guery took third with Great Britain V. All of the top three were within half a second of each other’s finishing times.
This was the second big victory of the week for Chacco’s Girlstar, taking the top spot just two days prior as well.
“She’s an incredible mare,” Olympic veteran Camilli went on about the Chacco-Blue daughter. “Incredibly fast and really careful, so she made it easy today. She’s been jumping great at this show. I’m really really happy with her.”
Her stats paint a pretty picture as well, donning a 50% clear round rate at 1.55m and 55% at 1.50m (Jumpr Stats). Her 1.60m clear round rate is continuing to rise as the mare gets more mileage at the highest level.
The atmosphere in the stadium definitely helped cheer Chacco’s Girlstar on as she sped through the course. There is an incredible atmosphere here,” Camilli noted of the Mexico City venue. “It’s very unique. All week it’s been packed full with an incredible crowd and I’m really happy.”
His win qualified him for the LGCT Super Grand Prix later this year, something he hadn’t thought in the realm of possibility but now looks ahead to excitedly.
“It’s the first year I’m on the global team so I hadn’t thought about it,” Camilli said of the Super Grand Prix ticket. “For sure it’s going to be an incredible emotion and I’m looking forward to it.”
Whether it’s a Chacco-Blue partner or otherwise, Camilli will plan to put his best foot forward come the Super Grand Prix, continuing to build success with his string along the way.
