The fifth leg of the FEI Dressage World Cup™ Western European League showcased the best in the west and home-town favorites in London.
Paris 2024 Olympic team bronze medalist Becky Moody (GBR) and homebred gelding Jagerbomb scored a new personal best in the Grand Prix of 76.696%. The duo have competed together since 2022, but have only contested one World Cup qualifier prior.
“I always say there is room for improvement and there was,” said Moody, following their Grand Prix performance. “I was super pleased with him. Lots of it was good but I rode my pirouettes like an idiot so I gave myself a good talking to about that. Hopefully, I can improve that for [the Grand Prix Freestyle].”
Alas, pirouettes cost the duo in the Freestyle as well. Jagerbomb broke into trot in the canter pirouette and took a moment to recover. Their score of 80.160% was good enough for fourth place.
Reigning World Champion and Paris 2024 double bronze medalist Charlotte Fry and 13-year-old stallion Glamourdale had the top-score of 86.645% to win the Freestyle. The pair was also third in the Grand Prix with a score of 75.217%.
“He [Glamourdale] was absolutely on fire, and performing like this on home soil is incredible. Riding him feels like flying,” said Fry.
Isabel Freese (NOR) and Total Hope Old had consistent performances, achieving second in the Grand Prix and Grand Prix Freestyle with scores of 76% and 83.270%, respectively. Dinja Van Liere and Hartsuijker took third in the Freestyle with a score of 80.225%.
With five legs wrapped, Germany’s Carina Scholz leads the Western European standings on 60 points, followed by countrywoman Biana Nowag-Aulenbrock (48) and Austria’s Diana Porsche (43).
The FEI Dressage World Cup next stops in Mechelen, Belgium, December 28-29.
