Katie Laurie may be from down under. But she’s coming out on top at Langley, BC’s Thunderbird Show Park.

Making her first international appearance with Casebrooke Lomond in Canada since moving to Okotoks, Alberta in January, the New Zealand born, now Australian national, shot straight to the top of the leaderboard in Thursday’s $37,000 Artisan Farms Welcome 1.45m CSI2*.

Fifteen of the 32 combinations to contest Peter Holmes’ course qualified for the jump off. With each pair faster that the last, the lead changed hands almost by the round. In the end just three hundredths of a second separated first from third place—none faster than Laurie and “Sparkie’s” blistering time of 42.71 seconds.

Shauna Cook (CAN) rode to second aboard Gallup in 42.97 seconds, while Brian Morton (CAN) and Cadillac took third in 42.99 seconds.

The victory is Laurie’s third in the past two weeks at tbird. She captured both Friday’s 1.40m with Casebrooke Lomond and Sunday’s $10,000 Murchie’s Tea & Coffee Grand Prix aboard Cera Caruso at last week’s Harvest Premier.
