Pandemic event cancellations continue this week worldwide.

Joining the likes of Hickstead (GBR) and Aachen (GER), Thunderbird Show Park in Langley, BC has called off its May tournaments, including the Odlum Brown BC Open, host of the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ of Canada.

Reads the joint statement from tbird president Jane Tidball and COO Chris Pack:

Thunderbird Show Park is a family-run business. In times of duress, like the global one we’re currently experiencing due to COVID-19, families come together to support one another. Ironically, the best way we can support you at this exceptional moment in history is by staying apart.

For the first time in Thunderbird Show Park’s 47-year history and with enormous regret, we have made the difficult decision to cancel both the Canadian Premier, May 19–24 and the Odlum Brown BC Open CSIO5*, May 26–31.

As we navigate this uncharted territory, our first priority is to protect the health and safety of our families, employees, sponsors, competitors, officials, media, fans, and spectators. In keeping with the World Health Organization guidelines and those of the Canadian Federal and Provincial governments, we’re committed to doing our part to flatten the curve and cancelling all planned events at tbird through May, including the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ of Canada.

Competitors entered in our May shows have the option of receiving a full refund on deposits or of re-assigning their deposit to a future show along with a $50 “Thank You” credit from tbird.

This pandemic is unprecedented and unpredictable. But it will eventually pass. Our sights are set firmly on building for that future. The tbird management team is currently working to offer an additional week of competition September 16–20, to continue to improve amenities here at the Show Park, and, most importantly at this critical juncture, to keep community spirits up. We’re in this together. (Six feet apart.)

We look forward to welcoming you back to tbird as soon as COVID-19 is safely in the rear view. From our family to yours, thank you for your continued support.

Stay safe and stay healthy.

At this time, plans for the tbird Summer shows are still underway.
