USA’s Andrew Ramsay and California 62 didn’t just win in Kentucky on Friday—they made history.

The inaugural Kentucky CSI3* Invitational kicked off last night in Lexington. The two class show caps the competition schedule at the prestigious Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event (LRK3DE) and capitalizes on the massive crowds and buzz generated by “the best weekend of the year.”

Ramsay and his 14-year-old Holsteiner are now in the books as the winner’s of the first ever class in the first ever edition of the show.

“The idea of hosting FEI show jumping at one of the world’s premier eventing competitions has generated excitement since it was first announced,” said Derek Braun, founder of the Split Rock Jumping Tour, who is producing the Kentucky CSI3* Invitational. “Tonight was the beginning of what we know will very quickly become one of the biggest show jumping events in the country.”

Ramsay and the speedy mare were also the first, and only, combination to cross the timers under the 60 second mark, posting a winning time of 59.72 seconds in the $35,000 Welcome Speed Cup.

USA’s Margie Goldstein-Engle and Dicas were second in 61.63 seconds and Chile’s Samuel Parot in third in 62.88 seconds.

“Margie was very fast,” said Ramsay. “I just tried to ride my plan. The only change was that we did the last line in one more stride.”

The speed class was compulsory for entrance into Saturday’s $225,000 Kentucky CSI3* Invitational Grand Prix.

Thirty horses will contest the Grand Prix. Watch it live on USEF Network at 4:30 p.m. EST!
