Bursting from the gate as if someone stole his feed bucket, California Chrome hustled to the lead under Victor Espinoza in the GI Pacific Classic, and just like that, this race was over.
What was supposed to be a gripping triumvirate co-starring champion mare Beholder and the dangerous Dortmund, swiftly and decisively became the California Chrome Show. And what a show the 5-year-old phenom delivered.
The 2014 champion 3-Year-Old has grown into an all-out monster. Chrome is now 5 for 5 this year, with career earnings now exceeding $13 million. This two minutes of pure brilliance cements his status as the best horse in training…anywhere, in the world (and Beholder ain’t too far behind).
Jockey Victor Espinoza took the superlatives to the next level. “I’m going to say this now: this is the best horse I’ve ever ridden,” he said after his joy ride.
So Chrome, how will you celebrate?
