Whether you own or lease a horse, or simply take lessons at your local barn, riding is expensive.
And so it the show apparel. It’s easy to lose a paycheck to fancy riding outfits (and I sometimes do…), so I’m always on the hunt for a less expensive options without sacrificing quality or style.
With show season at the front and center of my mind, here are my hi-lo options for the week.
This Alessandro Albanese show shirt is gorgeous! It has mesh inserts, stretchy fabric and a magnetic collar to keep you cool and comfortable. The black piping gives it a sporty look, while keeping it classic under a show coat.
This Aubrion version has the same traditional look and color and is made of a perforated performance fabric to keep you cool. But it’s only a third of the price!
I absolutely love this navy show coat from Cavalliera. The stretch jersey fabric provides an unrestricted movement in the saddle and the zip front and pockets give it a sleek technical look.
Horseware’s Flow2 Tech Competition Jacket has the similar fit and look—at almost half the price.
I love a classic show ring look and these Goode Rider Miracle Knee Patch Breeches fit the bill. With 24% spandex they have stretch and support in spades and a flattering mid-rise fit. The tone on tone patch is elegant and understated and sock style bottoms guarantee a snug fit under your boots.
This version from Horze Grand Prix Knee Patch Breeches is a more wallet-friendly of the same look.
Of course you need a helmet to top it off. I love the sporty look and matte finish on the Charles Owen Ayrbrush Helmet—and that the cup headband can be removed for cleaning. (No sliding on a sweaty helmet for your next ride.)
