On Friday, a fire destroyed the home of Grand Prix rider Aaron Vale, his wife Mallory, and their daughter Kisner while the couple was busy on their farm, training horses and clients. Though no human family members were harmed, the blaze decimated the Vale’s home and Mallory’s car, and most devastatingly, claimed the life of their dog, Roo, who was inside.

“Dogs are not our [whole] life, but they make our lives whole,” Mallory says in a note on the family’s GoFundMe page. “We love all our dogs, but certain ones define chapters in our lives. I’m so glad I got to spoil you [Roo] to the absolute finest, and I’m so sorry I couldn’t get you out. As Kinser says, ‘Her Roo Roo is in the clouds and the thunder is all that squirrel chasing going on.'”

The couple was able to save a camper which was parked nearby at the time but also lost countless ribbons, trophies, and photos from Aaron’s riding career, and other irreplaceable items belonging to his late mother.

Our thoughts go out to the Vale family at this difficult time.
