It has been an eventful few years for California Chrome. Two years ago the cal-bred chestnut lit up the Triple Crown trail with wins in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes while capturing the world’s attention with his “everyman” connections, modest pedigree and stunning good looks.

Things got a little weird for the colt after his breakthrough 3-year-old season however, as various injuries kept him off the track while his owners squabbled over their homebred’s future.

Then, Team Chrome was thrown a rope in the form of Taylor Made Farm, a highly respected Kentucky-based breeding and sales agency who purchased a share in the colt while obtaining his future breeding rights. This gave his inexperienced ownership some much needed clout and direction. After some time off to heal up, California Chrome returned to the track this Spring, winning the Dubai World Cup and becoming the highest earning thoroughbred in American history.

He’s since been enjoying some time off at Taylor Made, having just shipped back out to California to resume training this past weekend. Blood-Horse‘s Claire Novak recently caught up with the champ and the people who keep him fit, fed and happy every day. If you’re a fan of Chrome, or horses in general, you will absolutely enjoy this feature.
