With alarming rates of psychological distress, burnout, and suicide soaring among veterinary professionals, Hilltop Biosciences has partnered with Not One More Vet, a U.S.-based non-profit that supports the mental health and wellbeing of veterinary professionals.

Hilltop Biosciences (Hilltop Bio) is a Mansfield, Massachusetts-based biotech company built on a foundation of compassion for animals and for the veterinary professionals who care for them. As a result of this new partnership, Hilltop Bio pledges to donate $1 for every unit of product sold, while matching any donations that are made to Not One More Vet (NOMV) up to $5,000 at the Hilltop Bio booth during the 2023 AAEP Conference (November 29–December 3).

“We are all in this profession together, and only by working together can we create a healthy professional culture for ourselves and our colleagues,” said NOMV’s Board President and Co-Founder, Carrie Jurney. “We could not continue our work without the support of our community, and we are so grateful for Hilltop Bio’s support of our mission.”

Founded as a Facebook group in 2014 following the death by suicide of a beloved veterinarian, Dr. Sophia Yin, NOMV was created as a safe space for veterinarians who wanted to talk with one another about mental health issues and the difficulties they faced in the profession. The support network grew quickly, and in 2017, NOMV became a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Today, their network has expanded into a wider community dedicated to improving the lives of veterinary professionals, students, technicians, and support staff.

Industry studies suggest that serious psychological distress among veterinary professionals has increased over the last few years. Even more alarming are the rates of burnout and suicide among vets and their staff, with many vets choosing to leave the profession—making NOMV’s work to transform the status of mental wellness so practitioners can survive and thrive through education, resources, and support vitally important.

NOMV’s multiple innovative support systems include:

  • the world’s largest veterinary peer-to-peer support group
  • an educational program that focuses on wellness
  • a resources program providing both fiscal and referral support
  • student support and mentorship
  • an online crisis support system specifically designed for veterinary professionals
  • a mentally healthy workplace certification program
  • outreach and awareness services

“We are honored to support NOMV and their dedication to supporting the veterinary profession which has seen increasing numbers of mental health distress and suicide,” said Amanda Drobnis, Hilltop Bio’s, CEO.

“We are looking forward to supporting NOMV for many years to come.”
