The Tokyo Olympics have been rescheduled for Jul. 23, 2021 to Aug. 9, 2021, nearly one year to the day after the Games were due to start this summer.

Originally scheduled to open on Jul. 24 and close on Aug. 9, the Games were postponed by the International Olympic Committee and Japanese organizers last week due to the coronavirus pandemic.

On Monday, the Tokyo 2020 executive board finalized the new dates.

“These new dates give the health authorities and all involved in the organisation of the Games the maximum time to deal with the constantly changing landscape and the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic,” read the IOC news release.

The Games have been canceled three times in Olympic history during wartime. The 2020 Games marks the first ever postponement.

The Paralympics have been rescheduled to Aug. 24–Sept. 5.
