The US Equestrian’s crackdown on drugs in horse sport received a blow today.
Three of the six new cases for prohibited substances in performance horses reported by the FEI this month concern American horses. All the cases involve the use of *Banned Substances under the FEI’s Equine Anti-Doping and Controlled Medication Regulations (EADCMRs).”
Among those are US show jumper Paige Johnson and US dressage riders Adrienne Lyle and Kaitlin Blythe.
Johnson’s horse Luke Skywalker 46 tested positive for Pramoxine, a topical pain reliever, during Week 2 of the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL CSI2*.
Lyle and Blythe’s mounts—Horizon and Don Principe, respectively—tested positive for Ractopamine, a beta adrenoceptor agonist which has recently been shown to improve growth performance and carcase composition in pigs. Both positive tests were recorded during Week 5 of the Adequan Global Dressage Festival in Wellington FL.
Two show jumpers (Brazil’s Marlon Modolo Zanotelli and Italy’s Giacomo Bassi) and one endurance rider (Uruguay’s Victoria Goñi) make up the remaining three cases.
All six athletes have been provisionally suspended from the date of notification (5 April 2017) until the FEI Tribunal renders its decision. The horses have been provisionally suspended for two months.
