Marc Dilasser described his relationship with Arioto du Genres like an old married couple. With a relationship like that often comes a strong connection, a mutual bond, and an understanding for one’s habits and preferences. And maybe occasional disagreements.

For Dilasser and the 15-year-old gelding (Diamant de Semilly x Qualisco III), the mutual mind-reading they’ve developed is showing in their results.

“Right now we’re going through a great phase, so we’re enjoying every minute,” Dilasser commented after his victory in the CSI4* 1.55m Grand Prix de la Ville de Chantilly, following a win earlier in the week as well.

The course, designed by fellow Frenchman Gregory Bodo, challenged the competitors yet still produced a hefty jump-off field, ripe with Olympians and top talent.

“It was a classic Greg course,” Dilasser described. “On the course walk you don’t always see where the difficulties are, but in fact it’s everywhere. We’re lucky in France to have such a talented and experienced course designer. Today he produced a very demanding Grand Prix, yet still 12 clears, and a jump-off full of five-star riders. Chapeau!”

Dilasser was the fastest of only five double-clear efforts. A couple entries snuck in with faster times, but rails fell on their way. Scott Brash had the last word, but just came up short aboard Hello Valentino for second place. French teammate Nicolas Delmotte took third with Jordan Molga M.

“Arioto is an exceptional horse; we’ve always known that,” Dilasser said of his partner. “Tonight, on the drive home I’ll try to count how many Grands Prix he’s won. There are quite a few!”

Going on eight years together, Dilasser and Arioto’s partnership is longer than some marriages. The duo is proof that when you know, you know.

“I’m so proud of him,” he continued. “He’s a fighter, a real warrior. He’s the show horse you dream of: lighting fast and he just loves his job. Today, everything was perfect.”
