How/What to Watch: The Best Weekend All Year

Working horses may need extra energy.

The Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event (LRK3DE) is back and with spectators returning for the first time since 2019—some 80,000 are expected—it will once again be the “best weekend all year.”

Eventing fans are preparing to watch cross-country, all across the country, as the event of the season kicks off on April 27th. The week will feature the Land Rover/USEF CSI5*-L Eventing National Championship and the Lexington CCI4*-S, as well as a $225,000 CSI3* Invitational Grand Prix.

To add some perspective, the LRK3DE is one of only seven 5* three-day events per year in the world. It teases a $375,000 purse, and also a chance at the Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing; bestowed on a rider who wins the Land Rover Kentucky, Mitsubishi Motors Badminton, and Land Rover Burghley in succession. Two grand slam champions will be competing this week, Michael Jung (GER) and Pippa Funnell (GBR).

So, if you’re an eventer and you have other plans this weekend, no you don’t. Let’s update your calendar:
