It’s the 22-year-old Irish rider’s fourth CSI5* victory in ten days, in case you weren’t keeping track.

Aboard the ever consistent Cita, an 11-year-old Holstein mare, Daniel Coyle topped a field of 54 to claim the Scotiabank Cup on Friday of the Continental Tournament at Spruce Meadows in Calgary, Alberta.

The pair posted the fasted double clear in an epic 18-horse jump off. You could say it was a decisive victory born from indecision.

“I think I ended up changing my mind about ten times over the first round course, I kept asking myself over and over—should I do three or four from the Liverpool to the skinny? I had made up my mind, I was set on doing three. Well, I ended up doing four,” laughed Coyle.

“Cita really does not want to knock a fence down, which makes my job so much easier. All I have to do is steer—and when I do it right, she is simply incredible.”

Cita’s double clear streak, started in March, remains unblemished.

On Saturday, Coyle collected his fourth victory of the 2017 Spruce Meadows Summer Series. This time, a improbable tie! Riding (the aptly named) Tienna, he and USA’s Leslie Howard posted identical times of 36.44s in an 11-horse jump off to co-win the 1.50m Canadian Utilities Cup!

Coyle is currently #47 on the Longines World Rankings.
