Carrying 120 pounds and the weight of the world on her back, 2-year-old filly American Cleopatra made her much anticipated debut on Sunday at Del Mar and did not disappoint. The full sister to 2015 Triple Crown winner American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile, Littleprincessemma) has already accomplished something her brother did not: win at first asking, in resounding wire-to-wire fashion no less.

“Those are good genes, there,” trainer Bob Baffert deadpanned after the race.

Yes, we all need to pump our collective brakes a bit before we anoint her as the first female to win the Triple Crown, but isn’t it more fun to daydream about the possibilities here? Exactly.
