One of the most fun (and terrifying) things about working with green horses is that you never really know what you’re gonna get. The windy day you fully expect to pull your ejection seat lever in the show ring, the lil’ guy throws down a perfect trip. Or, the most mundane Wednesday hack back home can suddenly turn into an afternoon at the rodeo.

Introducing a horse to jumping for the first time can be just such a crapshoot, though most horses tend to take to it far less dramatically than you might expect. That wasn’t exactly the case, though, for Molly Ann Charlton’s then-seven-year-old OTTB mare, Dreamer. While working out on the lunge line, Molly Ann attempts to gently introduce Dreamer to the concept of free jumping a tiny cross-rail. Easy-peasy, right? WRONG.

Dreamer, for whatever reason, interprets the addition of a cross-rail to her lunging path as something quite different: Sabotage. Betrayal. A total disregard for the sanctity and order of the schooling ring…

“She is a very gentle and kind mare, but definitely has an attitude when you ask her to do something new!” says Molly Ann. “She is a blast to work with, though.”

We bet you’ll want to watch this one more than once…
